Palm Springs in February: Modernism Week, Tennis and the Best Weather of the Year

The weather everyone comes for

February is the best all-round month in the desert: typical highs in the mid-70s, dry sunny days, nights in the upper 40s. Heated pools are genuinely enjoyable, hiking is comfortable all day, and the wildflower season is beginning in a good year. Late February can bring the valley's spring wind, which matters mainly for open patios and tennis.

Events with confirmed dates

• Modernism Week — February 11–21, 2027. The eleven-day celebration of midcentury architecture and design, with home tours, talks, parties and the Modernism Show. The Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival in Indio traditionally lands in February and is a genuinely local, genuinely strange delight — date shakes, camel races, Arabian Nights staging. Booking reality

February is where waiting costs you money. During Modernism Week, downtown and Uptown properties fill first, minimum-stay requirements appear, and rates sit at the annual peak. Three ways to handle it:

1. Book six months out if Modernism Week is the point of the trip, and buy tour tickets the day they release. 2. Shift a week. The first week of February and the gap between Modernism Week and the tennis are far easier and cheaper. 3. Stay mid-valley. If you are chasing value, budget hotels and properties without reported resort fees are worth filtering on this month more than any other.

How to spend the days

This is the month to do everything: hike in the morning, swim in the afternoon, eat outside at night. Design-minded visitors should combine home tours with the Architecture and Design Center and a drive through the Movie Colony and Twin Palms. Tennis visitors should treat Indian Wells as the base and expect heavy traffic on Highway 111 around match times.

Restaurant reservations are the hardest they get all year — book the places you actually care about before you arrive, using the downtown restaurants and romantic restaurants guides.

Who February suits

Anyone who wants perfect weather and does not mind crowds or peak pricing: design fans, tennis fans, couples, and first-timers who want the city at full volume. Budget travelers and anyone allergic to crowds should look at January or late April instead.
