Desert Hot Springs sits on a natural hot mineral aquifer, which is why the town is full of small spa hotels with mineral pools.
The city is about 15 minutes north of Palm Springs across the wash. It is less polished and less walkable, but the mineral water is real and the small hotels are often the best value in the valley.
