Desert Hot Springs
Desert Hot Springs sits on an aquifer that comes out of the ground hot, which is why the town is a grid of small soaking hotels rather than resorts.
The mineral district is the cluster of streets north of Pierson Boulevard where dozens of small hotels tap the natural hot aquifer. Properties range from six-room adults-only inns to full spa resorts, and most are built around a series of pools at different temperatures.
There is little to do in town beyond soaking, which is largely the point. Palm Springs is 15 minutes south, so a Desert Hot Springs stay pairs easily with dinner and shopping down the hill.
Summer is genuinely quiet here and rates fall hard; winter weekends sell out and the smallest properties book months ahead.
Desert Hot Springs Mineral District is one of the areas we track in Desert Hot Springs. This page pulls together everything on PalmSpots that sits inside it, so you can judge whether it is the right base for your trip rather than guessing from a map pin.
We do not currently list a hotel inside Desert Hot Springs Mineral District, so most visitors stay elsewhere in Desert Hot Springs and drive in.
Getting around: distances in the Coachella Valley are deceptive. Neighbouring areas look close together but the valley runs about 45 miles end to end, so plan on a car for anything outside a walkable downtown core, and budget more driving time on festival weekends when Highway 111 and the I-10 back up.
Ask whether the hotel's pools are the natural hot aquifer or a heated pool — both exist in town and the difference is the whole reason to come.
Hotels inside the neighborhood, closest first.
