Palm Desert is the valley's retail and arts center. El Paseo is the main draw, along with The Living Desert on the south side of town.
Palm Desert sits mid-valley, roughly 20 minutes from Palm Springs. It is larger and more suburban, with wide streets and a lot of golf. Families tend to base here for The Living Desert and easy access to both ends of the valley.
