Start at the north-end Visitor Center

The Palm Springs Visitor Center is the former Tramway Gas Station at 2901 N Palm Canyon Drive. Its dramatic roof is a landmark associated with Albert Frey. The official visitor-information page lists 10am–5pm daily; confirm holiday changes before going inside for maps.

North-end neighborhoods and landmark exteriors

Choose a manageable group of stops, map them and follow posted parking rules:

• Racquet Club Estates: view the neighborhood's modernist homes from public streets, including the Steel Development houses associated with Donald Wexler and Richard Harrison.
• Kaufmann Desert House: Richard Neutra's 1946 house is at 470 W Vista Chino Road. Treat it as a private residence and an exterior-viewing stop.
• Edris Residence: the E. Stewart Williams house at 1030 W Cielo Drive is another private residential landmark. Public visibility varies; do not enter a driveway or yard for a better view.
• House of Tomorrow: the Alexander family's experimental home at 1350 Ladera Circle, associated with Palmer & Krisel, is also known for Elvis and Priscilla Presley's honeymoon. Verify an expressly offered tour before expecting interior access.

These stops are not a single short downtown walk. Choose a route suited to your transport, mobility and the day's conditions.

A separate central Palm Springs walking section

For a smaller on-foot outing, map the South Palm Canyon buildings you want to see:

• Architecture and Design Center, 300 S Palm Canyon Drive: the museum occupies a former bank building. Check the museum and architecture guide for admission and opening days before planning to go inside.
• Former Coachella Valley Savings & Loan, 499 S Palm Canyon Drive: the E. Stewart Williams building is known for its curved supporting forms.
• Bank of America, 588 S Palm Canyon Drive: another modernist bank landmark along South Palm Canyon.

Check crossings, parking, conditions and access for your route. Seeing a building from the sidewalk is different from permission to enter a working business or museum.

Add another neighborhood or a separate valley outing

Twin Palms is an option for more residential architecture in South Palm Springs; it is a separate leg from the north-end stops. Do not confuse the neighborhood with the Sinatra residence also called Twin Palms.

Sunnylands is in Rancho Mirage and deserves a separate outing. Its Center & Gardens offer free admission and parking when open; historic-estate visits use separate arrangements. Use the official gardens page for the current schedule and visitor details.

Choose a paid tour by what it includes

Modernism Week offers October and February festival activities as well as separate seasonal architecture tours. Interior access depends on the specific activity.

Modern Tours Palm Springs sells self-guided audio and mapping products. The Modern Tour is a different operator advertising live-guided tours and private-home visits. Compare the actual inclusions rather than treating these similarly named companies as one service.
