Coachella is less about the festival grounds and more about the logistics. The Polo Club is in Indio, roughly 25 miles from downtown Palm Springs, and traffic on festival weekends can turn a 35-minute drive into two hours. Where you sleep determines how much sleep you get.

Weekend dates

Coachella 2027 is expected to run across two weekends in mid-April. Weekend one typically draws the bigger crowds and higher prices. Weekend two is slightly calmer, sometimes warmer, and often a better value for lodging.

Where to stay

Palm Springs

The most fun option if your group wants restaurants, bars, and a real vacation around the festival. Pool houses and boutique hotels are everywhere. The trade-off is the longest drive to Indio, especially on Friday evening. Leave by 3 p.m. or take a shuttle.

Indian Wells and La Quinta

Closer to the venue with resort amenities. Hotels like the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells, the Renaissance Esmeralda, and La Quinta Resort are popular with Coachella groups. You still need a shuttle or rideshare, but the drive is shorter and less painful.

Indio and Coachella

The closest option and often the cheapest for houses, but restaurant and nightlife options are limited. If your group plans to cook at the house and Uber straight to the gates, this works. If you want a real Palm Springs experience, stay west.

Vacation houses

A four-bedroom house with a pool in La Quinta or Indio is the classic Coachella group setup. Split eight ways, it is usually cheaper than hotels and gives you a private after-party space. Book the moment dates are confirmed; the best houses are reserved within days.

Shuttles and getting there

The official Coachella shuttle program sells hotel and regional passes. Hotel shuttles are the easiest: walk from your room to the pickup line. Regional shuttles from Palm Springs, Indian Wells, and La Quinta are also available but sell out quickly. Buy passes when they go on sale; do not wait.

Rideshare is an option but surge pricing is extreme and pickup lines are long. Driving yourself requires a parking pass and patience. Biking from nearby hotels is possible for the closest Indio properties.

What to pack for the stay

Sunscreen, portable phone chargers, bandanas for dust, comfortable shoes you do not mind destroying, and layers for cold desert nights. A hydration pack is essential inside the grounds; most hotels allow you to fill it before you leave.

If you are booking late

Check Indian Wells and Cathedral City first — they have more inventory than Palm Springs and are still closer than downtown. Consider splitting the group across two nearby hotels. Look for cancelation drops in the two weeks before each weekend.
