Confirm the room's pet policy

Ask the hotel about the fee and whether it is per night or per stay, weight or number limits, eligible room types and whether a dog may be left unattended. Also confirm any rules for patios, dining areas and the pool deck.

Indian Canyons and Tahquitz Canyon prohibit pets

Both Indian Canyons and Tahquitz Canyon prohibit animals under their posted visitor rules. This includes leashed pets. Make suitable arrangements for the dog before choosing a canyon hike, and check whether your hotel's unattended-room policy allows your plan.

Palm Springs Air Museum states that friendly dogs on leashes are welcome for regular museum visits. Its air-conditioned hangars offer a different option from the pet-free canyon trails. Check any event-specific rules and your dog's needs before choosing a visit.

Warbird flights are separate: the museum prohibits animals aboard aircraft. A dog-friendly museum visit does not mean a pet can accompany a flight booking.

Check parks and permitted walking areas

Ask about the specific park or walking route rather than assuming all city paths or hiking trails allow dogs. The city dog-park page lists facilities, but maintenance notices and posted signs can change access.

For fall 2026, the city's maintenance schedule lists David H. Ready Dog Park's turf area closed October 5–December 23. Check updates before relying on that grass area; the notice distinguishes turf closures from other facilities.

For Joshua Tree, use the NPS pet guidance. Most hiking trails prohibit pets, while limited paved routes and other permitted areas have specific rules. Do not assume that carrying a dog makes a prohibited trail permissible.

Plan around heat and time away

Choose walks for current conditions and avoid hot ground. Carry water, use shade when available and shorten or replace an outing when conditions are unsuitable. Do not leave a pet unattended in a vehicle.
