Indian Canyons Palm Springs: Tickets, Hours & Trail Guide

Hours, last entry and the correct entrance

Navigate to the Indian Canyons tollgate at 38520 S Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs. This is the entrance for Palm, Andreas and Murray Canyons, separate from Tahquitz Canyon on Mesquite Avenue.

The operator posts 8am–5pm hours, with the last vehicle admitted at 4pm. The normal schedule is daily from October into early July, then Friday–Sunday during the summer period. Check the live canyon calendar for your date and the official hours page for changes. Last entry leaves limited trail time; choose an earlier arrival for a longer route.

Tickets and admission categories

The official Indian Canyons ticket page lists $12 adult admission, $7 for seniors 62+, $7 for students with ID, and $6 for children ages 6–12. Children five and younger enter free. Eligible active-duty or retired U.S. military, first responders and members of federally recognized Native American tribes receive free entry with the required ID; check the relevant ticket category.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the tollgate. The operator warns that access can pause when capacity is reached, including for online ticket holders. A ticket is not a promise of immediate entry at any particular time. Visitors age 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Which Indian Canyons hike should you choose?

For a shorter palm-oasis outing, consider Andreas Canyon. The operator lists its loop as 1.2 miles, easy, with 200 feet of elevation gain. It follows the creek and returns to the parking area; uneven ground and desert conditions still matter.

Palm Canyon offers a palm-filled canyon and access to several routes from the Trading Post area. Choose a marked route and turnaround point using the official trail maps, rather than treating the canyon's length as a suggested day hike.

For more distance, the operator's Murray Canyon route is 4.7 miles, moderate, with 450 feet of elevation gain. That mapped option includes the Coffman Trail variation. It is not the same distance as every possible out-and-back to Seven Sisters. Ask rangers about current route access and waterfall conditions.

Victor is another mapped option at 2.7 miles, moderate, with 365 feet of gain. It leaves the palm shade for an exposed ridge. Do not choose it solely because its mileage looks short.

Plan a first visit without overpacking the day

Start by choosing one mapped route, rather than trying to visit every canyon. Andreas is the shortest option in the comparison; Murray with the Coffman variation needs a longer hiking window. For Palm Canyon and Victor, use the Trading Post-area map to understand the approach and return.

Before leaving your hotel, check the gate calendar and current notices, save the trail map and arrange your return transportation. At the entrance, ask about closures and conditions for your chosen route. Keep the afternoon flexible instead of attaching a tight restaurant reservation to an uncertain hiking finish.

Pets, water and visitor rules

Pets are not allowed in Indian Canyons. A pet-friendly hotel does not provide permission to bring a dog onto these trails.

Water is required for trail entry. Follow the operator's safety and visitor rules, stay on designated trails and leave natural and cultural features undisturbed. Heat, storms and trail conditions can change the plan; an early start does not make every day suitable for hiking.

Ranger-led outings and transportation

The posted October–June program includes Friday–Sunday ranger-led walks and Monday–Thursday ranger talks, free with paid admission. Confirm the current meeting point and schedule before arranging your day.

Plan transportation to the gate and onward trailheads. The operator requires Uber/Lyft drivers to display company windshield stickers for drop-off and pickup. Arrange the return as well as the outbound ride, and do not assume a hotel-to-trail walk is practical.

Indian Canyons versus Tahquitz Canyon

Choose Indian Canyons for a choice of palm-oasis routes. Choose Tahquitz Canyon for its separate 1.8-mile rocky loop toward a seasonal waterfall; the operator rates that trail strenuous. They have separate tickets and entrances. Pick one as the day's main outing rather than promising both before lunch.
