Downtown Palm Springs
Downtown is the easiest place to base yourself in Palm Springs, especially without a car. Hotels, restaurants, the art museum and the Aerial Tramway road are all within a few minutes of Palm Canyon Drive.
The stretch between Alejo Road and Ramon Road holds most of the walkable action: sidewalk dining, the Palm Springs Art Museum, boutique retail and a cluster of larger hotels around the convention center. Streets are flat and shaded in patches, so summer walking is realistic in the early morning or after sunset.
Where to stay in Downtown Palm Springs: Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs, The Colony Palms Hotel, Hyatt Palm Springs. Rates in this part of Palm Springs follow the same pattern as the rest of the valley — highest from January through April and on festival weekends, softest in July and August.
