You will find birria and carnitas counters that have been family-run for three generations, panaderias that sell out by mid-morning, and a growing set of murals from the Coachella Walls project that turn side walls into portraits of farmworkers and local elders. Weekend evenings bring vendors selling elote, aguas frescas and raspados. It is a genuinely local district — nobody is performing for tourists — which is exactly why it is worth the twenty-five-minute drive from La Quinta or the thirty-five from Palm Springs.
