Pueblo Viejo Mercadito Night Market
Downtown Coachella, Coachella
Coachella
Pueblo Viejo is the old heart of Coachella and the most concentrated stretch of Mexican food, murals and family businesses in the eastern valley.
The district runs along Sixth Street and Grapefruit Boulevard, where the city has spent the last decade adding public art, wide sidewalks and plazas as part of its downtown revitalization. You will find birria and carnitas counters that have been family-run for three generations, panaderias that sell out by mid-morning, and a growing set of murals from the Coachella Walls project that turn side walls into portraits of farmworkers and local elders. Weekend evenings bring vendors selling elote, aguas frescas and raspados. It is a genuinely local district — nobody is performing for tourists — which is exactly why it is worth the twenty-five-minute drive from La Quinta or the thirty-five from Palm Springs.
