The historic downtown of the city of Coachella, where a public mural program has covered dozens of buildings with large-scale works celebrating farmworker history and Mexican and Purepecha heritage. Between the murals sit panaderias, paleterias, taquerias and mariscos counters serving the best-value food in the valley. It is walkable in about an hour, free, and worth timing for a weekend morning when the bakeries are fullest.
