Los Angeles to Palm Springs: Driving, Bus, Train & Flight Options

The right Los Angeles–Palm Springs journey depends on where you start, your arrival time and whether you want a car during the stay. Compare the complete trip to your hotel, including bags and transfers, before choosing the lowest fare or shortest advertised travel time.

Compare current dated itineraries. Fares, schedules, stops and road conditions can change; no option has a guaranteed door-to-door travel time.

Driving: price the whole round trip

Most road journeys use the I-10 corridor, but your starting point within Los Angeles changes the access leg. A Westside departure and a trip beginning near the Inland Empire are different journeys.

The regional tourism guide gives roughly two hours as a Los Angeles driving estimate. Use live navigation for your address and departure time, then add the stops and arrival arrangements you need. Traffic, incidents and road work can change the result.

Check Caltrans road information before leaving. For a rental, compare the full rental period, fuel or charging, hotel parking and any different-location return charge. A low daily vehicle rate is only one part of the total.

FlixBus: read both stop addresses

FlixBus lists Los Angeles–Coachella Valley services. Select your date and inspect the actual departure and arrival stops. Its regional destination name can cover places well beyond central Palm Springs.

Two listed arrival locations are Palm Springs North, 6600 N Indian Canyon Drive, and Indio Bus Station, 83100 Indio Boulevard. They lead to different onward-transfer plans. Use the address on your ticket for the current boarding location.

Los Angeles departures also use several locations. A stop associated with Union Station and the separate downtown FlixBus lot are not interchangeable. Read the ticket's loading instructions before heading to the station area.

Compare the dated fare, baggage allowance, cancellation terms and the cost of reaching both stops. Arrange the final ride to your hotel rather than assuming a regional bus drops you in the downtown restaurant district.

Amtrak via Fullerton: a train-and-bus journey

Pacific Surfliner's Amtrak Connection information describes Route 39 between Fullerton and the Coachella Valley. A Los Angeles itinerary can combine a train to Fullerton with a reserved connecting bus.

Book and review the entire journey in Amtrak, including the connection and final stop. The operator currently states that these connection buses, apart from a separate Route 10B exception, are sold as part of a rail trip. Do not assume the Fullerton bus is a standalone walk-up shuttle.

The airport's transport page confirms Amtrak bus service at the north end of PSP's terminal. That airport bus arrival is different from the PSN rail station.

November 7–8, 2026 planning note: Pacific Surfliner currently reports a full corridor rail closure, and will not provide buses to replace those trains. Its Amtrak Connection buses continue, but their normal rail connections are unavailable. Read the official advisory and arrange an alternative itinerary for those dates.

Direct train: check the day and station

The Sunset Limited operates three days a week, rather than as a daily regional train. Check the live timetable in both directions and pay attention to the calendar date and arrival time.

Amtrak identifies Palm Springs station, PSN, at North Indian Canyon Drive and Palm Springs Station Road. It is an unstaffed platform-and-shelter station, separate from downtown and the airport. The station page lists no restrooms or Wi-Fi.

Arrange your onward pickup before choosing this option. Check whether a late arrival affects the hotel night you need and whether the property can accommodate your check-in time.

Flying from LAX to PSP

PSP's airline and destination listing identifies United's Los Angeles service as year-round. Check the airline's actual flights and fares for your date.

A flight can be useful as part of a longer connecting journey. For a trip beginning in Los Angeles, include the time and cost of reaching LAX, check-in, security and the transfer after landing. The flying portion alone does not settle the door-to-door comparison.

Use the PSP airport guide for arrival and ground transport. Confirm baggage and connection arrangements on the ticket you intend to purchase.

Choose the journey around your stay

For a compact downtown visit, compare the bus or rail itinerary plus local rides with the complete cost of renting a car. The without-a-car guide explains what you can group together on foot.

For golf, several valley cities, canyons or a Joshua Tree day trip, price the transport for those activities too. Avoid choosing the inbound journey in isolation from the rest of the holiday.

Compare downtown hotels or the wider area guide against your actual arrival point. Use the trip-cost worksheet to keep fares, rentals, parking and transfers in the same calculation.

Routes and operator guidance checked October 15, 2026. Recheck schedules, stops and advisories for both travel dates.
