Agua Caliente Cultural Museum: Tickets, Exhibits & Visit Planning
A downtown museum visit that puts the Agua Caliente story at the center
PalmSpots Editors · Published Oct 15, 2026 · Updated Oct 15, 2026

The Agua Caliente Cultural Museum gives a Palm Springs visit a different starting point: the history, culture and continuing life of the Agua Caliente people. Put it near the beginning of your trip, then use what you learn to give the surrounding city and canyons more context.
| Visit choice | How to plan it |
|---|---|
| Regular daytime visit | Select a ticket category and entry time on the official site |
| Thursday evening, October–May | Free admission 5–8pm; walk-up tickets begin at 5pm |
| Museum plus downtown lunch | Choose a nearby meal with time after the galleries |
| Museum plus a canyon visit | Book and plan each separately; check outdoor conditions |
| Visiting with luggage | Arrange storage elsewhere before arriving |
What makes this museum worth a stop
The Agua Caliente Cultural Museum tells the story of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians through its own cultural institution. For a first visit to Palm Springs, that makes it a useful opening activity before an architecture walk, a resort stay or a canyon outing.
The permanent gallery moves through ancestral landscapes, creation and migration stories, later history and the Tribe's present and future. Its five sections combine objects, audiovisual interpretation and an immersive theater presentation. Give the sequence room to develop rather than treating the museum as a quick photo stop.
The story also offers context for Indian Canyons and Tahquitz Canyon. Those are separate outdoor visits with their own admission, terrain and operating conditions. Learning about them indoors can stand on its own when a hike does not fit your trip.
Admission and choosing your ticket
The museum's published ticket page lists adults $10, seniors 65+ $5, children 6–17 $5 and college students with ID $5. Children under six enter free. Eligible Native American visitors and military visitors have ID-based free admission; adult Coachella Valley residents can check the local discount and its documentation requirements.
Use the official checkout for your date, ticket category and current terms. Check each person's age and eligibility before comparing the total. A family's admission calculation here is different from the rules at the Art Museum, Air Museum or Children's Discovery Museum.
For a relaxed visit, choose an entry that leaves room to read, watch the gallery presentation and browse afterward. Do not put a tight restaurant reservation immediately after the ticket time.
Opening days and free Thursday evenings
The visitor page lists normal opening days Tuesday–Sunday, 10am–5pm, with Monday closed. During October–May, Thursdays extend to 8pm.
The museum advertises free Thursday admission from 5–8pm during October–May, using walk-up tickets available from 5pm. This is a specific evening offer; it does not make Thursday daytime admission free. Recheck the official site for holiday closures, private events and changes before traveling.
If a Thursday evening works, choose whether the museum or VillageFest is your main activity. Leave enough time for that priority and keep the second stop optional. Confirm that the street fair is operating on your particular date.
What is on view now
The changing gallery currently lists A Beauty that Endures: Native Painting, Ritual, and Resilience in the 20th Century, scheduled October 3, 2026–May 30, 2027. Curated by Tony Abeyta, the exhibition brings together twentieth-century Native American paintings. Check the exhibition page for the installation current during your visit.
The Cultural Plaza also contains the outdoor Oasis Trail, interpreted through landscape features inspired by the Tribe's canyons. Treat that as an optional outdoor addition when conditions suit you. A rainy-day museum plan can focus on the galleries.
Arrival, parking and bags
Use 140 N Indian Canyon Drive for the museum, rather than an address for another Agua Caliente property. The museum lot entrance is on Andreas Road between Indian Canyon Drive and Calle Encilia. Check current parking instructions and signs when you arrive.
Bring a compact day bag. Review the museum's size restrictions before setting out, particularly if you are visiting between hotel checkout and a flight. Its lockers do not accommodate suitcases, so arrange luggage storage separately.
For access needs, read the museum's visitor guidance and contact Visitor Services about the arrangements you need. Asking ahead is more useful than relying on an available loan wheelchair or assuming every member of a group has the same requirements.
Build a downtown half-day around the visit
Start with the museum, then choose lunch from the downtown restaurant guide. Keep the afternoon flexible: a few blocks of the Walk of Stars suit an outdoor extension, while the rainy-day guide helps when you want another indoor stop.
The Palm Springs Art Museum is a separate institution on Museum Drive. Check both calendars before combining them; their opening days and admission offers differ. Two museums can make a satisfying day, but one unhurried visit is a better fit if your group prefers less reading or has another fixed booking.
Compare downtown hotels if this cultural cluster leads your trip. The without-a-car guide helps keep meals, sightseeing and transport in a realistic area.
