Indian Wells has almost no downtown by design. What it has is a run of large resorts between Cook Street and Washington Street, the Indian Wells Golf Resort, and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, home of the BNP Paribas Open each March.

Staying here means resort-first: pools, spas, on-site restaurants and a shuttle or short drive for anything else. El Paseo is ten minutes west, Old Town La Quinta ten minutes east.

March is the exception to the city's quiet: tennis fortnight books out the corridor months ahead and rates roughly double.
