The decision starts with your pool plans

Omni Rancho Las Palmas is our starting point when the children want a waterpark. Splashtopia has a lazy river, waterslides, sandy beach and water-play areas. The resort also offers the family-oriented Conchilla Valley Pool and a separate adults-only Azure Pool.

La Quinta Resort & Club suits a different trip: a casita, outdoor space and pools distributed through the grounds. Its published pool collection includes a family main pool, casita pools, a lap pool and the 21-and-over PLUNGE area. That variety makes room location a major part of the decision.

For families: waterpark convenience or a nearby courtyard pool

At Omni, ask how far your actual room is from Splashtopia and what slide restrictions apply to your children. A poolside category can be convenient for frequent swims, but it may be less appealing if afternoon naps matter. Check seasonal operating hours and maintenance before making the waterpark the reason for the reservation.

At La Quinta, a Poolside Casita puts a pool close by. That does not mean the pool is private. Reserve an explicitly identified private-pool suite or villa if exclusive use is essential, and confirm the booking description in writing. Neither easy access nor a shallow area replaces adult supervision.

Rooms and layouts

Omni lists guestrooms with a king or two queen beds and furnished balconies or patios. Its suites have separate sleeping quarters, with some configurations able to connect to a second bedroom. Ask whether connecting accommodation is confirmed or merely requested.

La Quinta has multiple casita categories. Its historic Vintage Casitas vary in size, layout and amenities; Poolside Casitas emphasize proximity to the water. Choose the category for the feature you need rather than assuming all casitas have the same fireplace, patio or bathroom arrangement.

For either resort, ask for a map showing the proposed room area relative to the pool, restaurant, parking and event spaces. Walking distances can matter more than a view upgrade when traveling with a stroller or someone with limited mobility.

For couples: adults-only pools are not a silence guarantee

Both resorts offer an adults-only swimming option. Omni calls its Azure Pool a relaxation-focused space. La Quinta's PLUNGE is 21+, with bar service and cabanas; its description includes a social atmosphere. Pick according to whether you want cocktails and company or a more secluded room location.

A room near a less busy courtyard may suit an early bedtime better than one overlooking a main gathering area. Ask about weddings, groups and planned entertainment on your dates.

Dining and location

La Quinta's dining lineup includes Morgan's in the desert, Adobe Grill, TWENTY6 and The Marketplace. Omni offers on-site restaurants and poolside food options. Check current menus, service days and reservation availability rather than assuming every outlet operates every evening.

These resorts are in different cities: La Quinta Resort is in La Quinta, and Omni Rancho Las Palmas is in Rancho Mirage. Use our La Quinta guide and Rancho Mirage guide to match the base to your plans. Neither is a downtown Palm Springs hotel.

Compare the full booking

Use identical dates, guest counts and cancellation terms. Include applicable resort charges, parking, breakfast, cabanas and activities in your comparison. This guide does not assume either resort is consistently cheaper. Confirm which facilities your rate includes and whether late checkout or connecting rooms carry additional charges.

Official sources

This comparison uses documented facilities, not a claim of a recent firsthand stay. Checked October 9, 2026: La Quinta pools, La Quinta casitas, La Quinta dining, Omni pools, Omni rooms and Omni suites.

FAQ

Which resort has a lazy river?
Omni Rancho Las Palmas offers a lazy river at Splashtopia. La Quinta's main distinction is its collection of courtyard and other swimming pools.
Are La Quinta casita pools private?
A pool near a casita is not automatically private. Reserve a category that explicitly includes an exclusive pool if that feature matters.
Do both resorts have adults-only pools?
Yes. Omni has the adults-only Azure Pool, and La Quinta lists PLUNGE as 21 and over. Confirm current access rules before your stay.
