Gay Bars in Palm Springs: The Arenas Road Strip and Beyond

The Arenas Road strip

Four bars sit within about a hundred metres of each other on East Arenas Road, which is why the crawl works so well here. A rough order that matches how the night builds:

• Chill Bar - the big sidewalk patio and the easiest early stop, with DJs and theme nights later.
• Streetbar - a video and dance bar billed locally as the longest-running gay bar in town; unpretentious and friendly. It has no official website, so call for hours.
• Blackbook - the cocktail-and-kitchen option on the strip. The bar runs to 1am most nights and the kitchen closes about an hour before.
• Hunters Nightclub - the dance floor. Later, louder, and the one that keeps going.
• Dick's on Arenas - the leather and cruise bar at 301 E Arenas Rd, which ran for years as Eagle 501 and is now under new ownership with a new name.

Off the strip

• Toucans Tiki Lounge, uptown on North Palm Canyon, is the drag-revue and dance room. Tiki decor, but the programme is shows and dancing.
• Quadz Video Bar, a block off Arenas on South Indian Canyon, is built around musical-theatre and pop sing-alongs.
• Tool Shed in Warm Sands has been a leather and Levi bar since 1993 and is now the only one of its kind in the valley.
• Oscar's Palm Springs is the daytime-into-evening courtyard option downtown, with drag brunch and cabaret in its showroom.
• The Roost Lounge in Cathedral City does piano, karaoke and open-mic nights - a short drive out when Arenas feels too busy.

What has closed or changed

Older guides still list several venues that no longer exist:

• The Barracks, the Cathedral City leather bar, closed and the brand has moved to Phoenix.
• Wang's in the Desert closed in 2024 with no confirmed reopening.
• Georgie's Alibi Azul on North Palm Canyon is gone as a live-music venue; the space is being re-tenanted.
• Eagle 501 is not closed but is no longer called that - it is Dick's on Arenas at the same address.
• Copa Palm Springs appears under more than one brand name and operator online, so confirm what is on tonight before making it the plan.

Practical notes

Park once downtown or take a rideshare - the strip itself is walkable but the bars off it are not. Arenas fills late, especially in season and during Pride, The Dinah and Splash House weekends, when cover charges and lines appear at venues that normally have neither. Between July and September, expect trimmed hours across the board.
