Westfield Palm Desert — the valley's enclosed mall
The only traditional enclosed shopping mall in the Coachella Valley, anchored by Macy's and JCPenney with roughly 150 stores — Apple, H&M, lululemon, Sephora, and the usual national lineup — plus a food court and a movie theater. Mall hours are typically 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 or 7 p.m. on Sundays, but individual stores and holiday hours vary, so check the mall's site before a special trip. In July and August this is the smartest shopping destination in the desert: fully air-conditioned with a parking garage.
El Paseo, Palm Desert — the luxury boulevard

Downtown Palm Springs and the Uptown Design District
Palm Canyon Drive mixes souvenir shops with genuinely good local boutiques, and Thursday's VillageFest street fair closes the street to traffic in the evening (in season). Ten minutes north, the Uptown Design District is the vintage and mid-century furniture capital — the place for modernist antiques, and a must if the architecture tour got you inspired.
Desert Hills Premium Outlets, Cabazon — the big one
