Idyllwild Village Shops

Two intersecting blocks in the middle of Idyllwild holding galleries, a bookstore, coffee, outfitters and gift shops, at 5,400 feet in the pines above Palm Springs. It is small enough to walk in half an hour and pleasant enough to spend an afternoon in when the valley is over 100 degrees. The town famously elected a golden retriever as mayor, and the merchandise reflects it.

Hours: Most shops daily 10am-5pm. Prices are moderate. Best for a cool-air afternoon.
